Labs and Simulation Spaces
Activities of Daily Living
Recognizing that healthcare-specific experiential learning transcends the bedside of a hospital/clinic environment, the CHSR has two apartment-styled spaces that afford learners the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills within a home-care setting. Learners can help simulated participants navigate their ADLs in the kitchen, living room, bathroom, and bedroom- to allow for a broader range of preparation within community/residential healthcare.
Autobody Shop
In this shop, autobody collision and refinishing technicians repair and restore damaged motor vehicle body parts and interiors. They repaint body surfaces, repair and replace automotive glass as well as repair defective automobile body parts and damage to the bodies of newly assembled cars. Estimators assess the degree of damage to a vehicle and the cost of parts and labour.
Aviation Structures Lab
In this lab students from all three aviation technician programs-Aircraft Maintenance Aircraft Structures and Avionics Maintenance-learn the hand skills required to maintain and repair aircraft metal structure. The skills taught in this lab prepare students to work in all areas of aviation: aircraft manufacturing, aircraft repair and overhaul.
Avionics classroom
Avionics include the many electronic components used for communications, navigation and the display and management of multiple aircraft systems and functions—everything from a simple searchlight for a police helicopter to a complicated tactical system for an airborne early warning platform.
Building Renovation Shop
In the Building and Renovation Shop we create projects that renovators encounter during their standard work day. We keep our projects as large as possible to ensure “full scale learning” is achieved. In this shop you are required to work in groups and follow all drawings and safety regulations as set out by the professor(s).
Cardiovascular Technology Lab
The Cardiovascular Technology lab allows students to practice clinical techniques using industry-standard equipment, software, and processes. Students learn how to connect Holter monitors, perform and evaluate ECGs, supervise exercise stress testing, and learn the basics of programming cardiac implantable devices, such as pacemakers. CVT grads are prepared for a variety of careers in hospitals, clinics, and industry!
Carpentry Lab
In this shop students will gain the skills and knowledge to enter the workforce as high skilled carpenters. They will work with the most current tools, equipment and technology found within the industry to learn the importance of sustainable practices, using eco-friendly materials, and minimizing waste.
Clinical Skills Lab
The Clinical Skills Lab provides a realistic hospital style environment where students can learn and practice essential patient care skills. With multiple beds, medical equipment and hands-on learning stations, this space helps learners build confidence, teamwork and clinical readiness before entering real healthcare settings.
Composite Manufacturing Lab
With support from aerospace industrial partners, this lab provides students with the experience of an operational manufacturing plant.
Students from our Aviation Technician - Aircraft Maintenance and Aviation Technician - Aircraft Structures programs will use this lab to learn how to build aircraft parts. The lab focuses on composite materials, with full production control and quality assurance systems, teaching students to follow the best practices used by major companies.
