Mohawk College and the MSA have partnered to create a program to help enhance the student experience through the investment of funds towards improvements to our campuses. In the past, monies have been used to update the facilities at The Arnie, and for student furniture at the IAHS and Stoney Creek campuses.
We asked and you answered!
In the Fall, we asked you to submit ideas on how we could make our campuses even better for our students. We were looking for ideas on ways that we could add to – or improve upon – areas at any of our campuses. The type of purchases had to be capital purchases – which could be the purchase of furniture, technology, screens, computers, charging stations, activities (i.e. ping pong tables). The purchases had to be one-time only (no ongoing costs), and the total cost limit was $220,000.
We had some really great submissions from you – including better signage at our safety crosswalks, more charging outlets across campus, more clubs, more accessible spaces, more study spaces, and nap rooms. A Selection Panel reviewed all the submissions, and where appropriate, we connected students with existing areas/programs at the college directly related to their proposals.
In reviewing all proposals, we have decided to move forward with the student proposals (there were two) for Nap/Rest Rooms. This is a new initiative for Mohawk, and we will begin by speaking with other institutions to discuss best practices when it comes to Nap/Rest Rooms. We will work with our Facilities Team in 2024 to identify spaces that could work for these new rooms, and our goal is to have the Nap/Rest Rooms available for student use by the end of 2025.
If you have any questions about the Mohawk Gives Back program, or the Nap/Rest Rooms project, please email studentservices@mohawkcollege.ca.
