At Mohawk College, we provide hands-on learning opportunities to prepare you for a successful transition to the workforce. Gain industry experience and build connections as you discover how your skills will serve you on-the-job. You will be able to attain both soft and technical skills employers are looking for through our many forms of experiential learning, including but not limited to:
- Co-op placements: Students have the opportunity to spend a semester working as a student in a paid position in their chosen field.
- Simulations: Using cutting-edge technology, students are placed in scenarios which will simulate situations they may face on-the-job and prepare them to properly tackle the challenges presented to them.
- Apprenticeship: Combine on-the-job paid employment and in-class training for skilled trades programs.

A typical day at Jessica's Early Childhood Education field placement
Her favourite part of the job is getting to watch kids be kids. “I enjoy doing activities that are child-led the most. Spontaneous activities throughout the day,” says Jessica. “If some kids were at the art centre, I would go and make arts and crafts with them. Or if they were at the block centre, we would build blocks together. Just spontaneous activities with them, I enjoyed.”
