Kathy Kemp has been a dedicated professional in the field of Early Childhood Education (ECE) since 2002. A graduate of Mohawk College, she was honored with the AECEO Award in recognition of her academic excellence. Kathy brings extensive experience across various child care settings, including infant, toddler, preschool, and school-age programs.
Throughout her career, Kathy has facilitated numerous workshops for community partners, focusing on curriculum models and delivery strategies. She also spent over nine years as a freelance writer, contributing research-based articles on ECE topics to Canadian publications. For four years, she served as an Early Childhood Consultant for the Dairy Farmers of Canada, authoring nutrition-focused content for ECE professionals across Ontario. Additionally, she has coordinated field placements, supporting the practical development of future educators.
Kathy is proud to serve as a Professor in the ECE program at Mohawk College, where she also holds the role of Program Coordinator for the Child Development Practitioner Apprenticeship Program. She previously coordinated the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Hamilton for over seven years, during which the program received the Early Literacy Agency Award of Hamilton in 2019.
Her commitment to community engagement is evident through her active volunteer work in the ECE sector. Kathy is passionate about global education and continues to advocate for the well-being of children and families both locally and internationally.
In 2023, Kathy was awarded Mohawk College’s internal Global Learning Opportunity grant, enabling her to lead a group of 14 ECE students on a volunteer initiative in the Dominican Republic. In 2024, she was selected to represent Mohawk College faculty in a global learning experience in Guatemala, further exemplifying her dedication to international collaboration and educational enrichment.
