Co-Founder, Raise Awareness, Advocate and Distribute (RAD)

Leen Alramlawi is an advocate for women’s mental, physical, and reproductive health.

She co-founded the non-profit initiative Raise Awareness, Advocate and Distribute (RAD), an advocacy organization focused on women empowerment, breaking the stigma around menstruation, and distributing menstrual hygiene products to those in need in Amman, Jordan and Mexico City, Mexico. She plans to expand programming to other countries in the future starting with Kenya in May 2023. Previously, Leen served as vice-president of FemCare Community Health Initiative in Hamilton, which also tackled the issue of the negative stigma surrounding menstruation.

In addition to her Mohawk College credential, Leen holds a paralegal diploma. In recognition of her tireless work to advance women’s rights, she received a Mohawk College Alumni of Distinction Award in 2021 in the recent graduate category.

Assistant Clinical Professor, McMaster University Social Worker, Compass Community Health

Nora Melara-Lopez has dedicated her career to serving the community.

For much of her career, Nora has worked as a social worker, client advocate, diversity leader and counsellor at Compass Community Health.

She is a commissioner of affidavits and a Spanish interpreter for the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General. In 2017, she became an adjunct assistant clinical professor in McMaster University’s Department of Family Medicine. In addition to her Mohawk credentials, Nora has earned a bachelors degree in social work. As a student she received the John A. Booth Memorial Award for continuing education in 2008. In 2019, she was recognized with an Alumni of Distinction Award in the community services category.

Steven Connor is a graduate of the Business Administration program and a 2019 Mohawk College Alumni of Distinction Award recipient in the business category. Steven’s career has taken him around the world where he has led many diverse teams. During his 27-year tenure with the Xerox Corporation, he held executive vice president positions in sales leadership, marketing and human resources. Steven’s broad experience and entrepreneurial DNA led him to starting his own practice in 2021, where his focus now is on supporting small and medium-sized businesses maximize sales performance and optimize their organizational design. Steven volunteers in his local community and supports Mohawk College by giving his time to various committees.

Maria de Castro Santos De Tina is a dedicated healthcare professional and lifelong learner.

First introduced to Mohawk College through the English as a Second Language courses, Maria continued her studies to complete two credentials from the college. She also holds a bachelors degree in music and physiotherapy, and a masters degree in science with a concentration in oncology from her home country of Brazil.

For over 10 years, Maria taught music in Brazil. Since living in Canada, she has continued to share her love of music by volunteering to play guitar for community groups. In 2018, Maria received the Alumni of Distinction Award in the recent graduate category for her community contributions.

Dan Robichaud

Dan Robichaud is a 2001 honours graduate of the Architectural Technology program. Dan began his career in New Brunswick working for an architect before returning to Hamilton to work as an architectural technologist. He later joined Mohawk College as a faculty member of Building and Construction Sciences. In his role as professor, Dan organizes regular events to foster community connections and mentorships for his students.

Kale McKay is a recent Mohawk College graduate working for the City of Hamilton as a software analyst and co-op mentor to the junior web applications developer role. He develops, maintains and onboards new and legacy solutions under the Business Applications section. Kale also works with businesses inside the organization to identify needs and to help implement processes and solutions to meet those needs in an enterprise capacity.
