Labs and Simulation Spaces
PCL Lab
In a manufacturing plant, the effective control of devices, motors and processes is essential for ensuring the continuous movement of materials and the production of high-quality products. Our students gain hands-on experience with motor controls utilizing programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and focus on the collection, management, display and application of machine data. This training is crucial for developing the skills needed to optimize manufacturing operations and improve overall efficiency.
Plumbing Lab
This shop is committed to nurturing the next generation of skilled plumbers, providing them with the tools, knowledge, and experience they need to build successful and fulfilling careers in this essential trade. Our facility is designed to provide hands-on education and practical experience for aspiring and apprentice plumbers.
Pneumatics Lab
Pneumatics and programmable logic controllers (PLCs) form a core function of the automated process within manufacturing. Students learn the application of relay logic and basic PLC programming, utilizing handheld units on multi-cylinder trainers, simulating a typical industrial application to automate a production process. They learn how to develop basic pneumatic schematics using standard ISO symbols, and assemble and troubleshoot the circuits using the schematics.
Power Engineering Lab
Power Engineers are responsible for the operation and maintenance of steam generation and refrigeration equipment across a diverse range of industries. These industries include steel and pulp mills, power generation, food production, healthcare institutions, oil and gas production, breweries and chemical manufacturing. Their expertise ensures the efficient and safe functioning of critical systems that support these vital sectors.
Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Lab
This shop is a dedicated space where aspiring refrigeration and air conditioning apprentices gain hands-on experience that is linked to theory and knowledge they will use throughout their career. In this lab we train and prepare apprentices for the real-word challenges in our industry.
Refrigeration and Piping Lab
Rotating Machines and Power Systems Lab
In the Rotating Machines and Power Systems Lab students engage in connection and analysis of AC and DC generating systems, as well as motors and motor control systems. They work with single and three-phase transformers, exploring the behaviour of inductive, capacitive and resistive loads. Additionally, students analyze and address power quality issues, gaining hands-on experience in diagnosing and correcting inefficiencies within electrical systems.
