Below are some examples of external funding that could be accessed in addition to GLO funding, to support Global Learning Opportunities projects.

Canada's International Education Strategy - Government of Canada

Currently under development.

China-Canada Scholars' Exchange Program - Government of Canada

Global Affairs Canada and the Chinese Ministry of Education are offering short-term scholarships to Canadians wishing to study abroad in China. Scholarships are awarded for studies, research, language studies or a combination of studies and language studies at participating Chinese institutions.

International Experience Canada (IEC) - Government of Canada 

If you’re a Canadian citizen aged 18 to 35, International Experience Canada (IEC) provides you with a path to a work permit or visa to work and explore in one of over 30 countries and territories. Note: IEC does not provide funding for global opportunities but is noted here as a support for students who wish to work abroad.

Funding for Faculty

ELAP Faculty Mobility Program (Latin America/Caribbean)

The ELAP Faculty Mobility Program provides Canadian faculty with short-term opportunities to teach or conduct research in Latin America and the Caribbean, at the college, undergraduate and graduate levels.

Canada-Brazil Awards - Joint Research Program (Brazil)

The objective of this program is to support team-oriented research projects between Canadian and Brazilian universities collaborating in mutually beneficial areas of research. The collaborations are expected to result in high quality research that will have an impact in Canada and in Brazil through the mobility of both Canadian and Brazilian research students and Project Leads. This program is open to all academic disciplines.

Canada-China Scholars' Exchange Program (China)

Fulbright Canada (United States)

The Canada-U.S. Fulbright Program operates on the principle of reciprocal exchange and provides the opportunity for outstanding Canadian scholars to lecture and/or conduct research in the United States. Award recipients include prominent and promising scholars, as well as experienced professionals.

Funding for Students

Study in Canada Scholarship - Government of Canada

Application period: January to March

The new Study in Canada Scholarships program will offer full academic scholarships for up to two years of study at the post-secondary level that leads to a diploma, post-secondary or post-graduate certificate, or Master’s degree at a college, technical or vocational institute, or university in Canada. The Study in Canada Scholarships program is open to students from all disciplines.

Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) (Latin America/Caribbean)

The Emerging Leaders in the Americas Program (ELAP) scholarships provide students from Latin America and the Caribbean with short-term exchange opportunities for study or research, in Canada, at the college, undergraduate and graduate levels.

Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) (Southeast Asian Nations)

The Canada-ASEAN Scholarships and Educational Exchanges for Development (SEED) program provides students, from member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), with short-term exchange opportunities for study or research in Canadian post-secondary institutions at the college, undergraduate and graduate levels.

Canada-Brazil Scholarship Program (CBSP) (Brazil)

CICan offers scholarships to Brazilian students studying in technical and technological programs at federal institutes who wish to study at a Canadian college or institute. 

Erasmus+ (EU)

For nearly 30 years, the EU has funded the Erasmus programme, which has enabled over three million European students to spend part of their studies at another higher education institution or with an organisation in Europe.

International Experience Canada (IEC) - Government of Canada

Become a candidate in one of the International Experience Canada (IEC) pools, get an invitation to apply, and apply for a work permit.

Funding for Faculty

CICan-CAPES Collaboration Agreement (Brazil)

CICan, through its member institutions, will be providing professional development to Brazilian basic education teachers to promote and improve their socio-emotional and pedagogical skills.

Erasmus+ (EU)

Opportunities are available to spend time teaching at an education institution abroad. These opportunities are available to both staff working in the education sector and to individuals working outside the sector invited to share their knowledge and experience.
