Catch up with Late Start programs

If your application was delayed and you missed the start of a semester, don’t worry - you still have the option to start your college semester late. Late Start programs allow students who missed a semester's initial start date to still attend classes. We consulted with the Manager of Admissions at Mohawk College, Eric Harvey, to give students all the info they need about Late Start.

What is a late start program?

“A Late Start program is a program where students have the option to register in courses that begin at a later date,” said Eric. “If you’ve been delayed in starting your classes for a semester, the late start blocks give you the option to start the program without missing any material which will serve to get you started on the right foot.”

“Rather than spending time getting caught up on course materials, the Late Start option allows you to start your classes right from the beginning,” he continued.

Is a Late Start program more difficult?

It’s easy to think that it’s bad to start college late, that it means you’ll have to work harder to catch up and learn the material from the classes you’ve missed. According to Eric, Late Start programs offer a unique opportunity to start at a later date and still attend every class in your program.

“The Late Start option gives applicants who have not been able to start at the beginning of the semester the opportunity to start their program without missing any classes and be ready to succeed in their programs,” said Eric.

Tips for Success

Students who want to prepare for their semester should complete the new student checklist. “Take this time to do the prep work before the start of classes to make sure you’re coming in ready to succeed,” said Eric.
