My First Field Trip in Canada

20170302_093003.jpgOn a Thursday in March I had my first field trip in Canada. I remember those days when I was a child and went with my classmates to different places in my country Syria. Although I had made many of those trips in Syria, this one was very special because it made me remember my ancient city Damascus, so I love Hamilton more and more.

First of all, we went to the Hamilton Tourism office. It was an amazing building because it has a historical heritage in addition to its working now as an information office for tourists. That building was built in 1923, so it has some original doors and stairs which are related to that early time. We were told all this information by a lovely woman who has been working there for more than 25 years, and we also took many brochures about different spectacular places in Hamilton which we will use to make our presentation on one of these attractive places.

After that, we visited the Central Library. We went to the fourth floor, and we saw the LINC section that has many different and helpful resources about learning English as a second language. Even though our visit there was very short, we all found that so interesting and helpful. Everyone was engaged, so some borrowed books while others got their library cards as they did not have one.

Then everyone was hungry, so we had our lunch in the Farmers Market. Before we left, some students gave a beautiful red flower to everyone. It was a lovely time. After that we had to walk for almost twenty minutes to reach our final and most fascinating place: Dundurn Castle. It was very cold outside; however, no one complained because we were very excited to see that fabulous place. I will never forget this place in my whole life. This building was built in the nineteenth century before Canada became an independent country, and two generations of the MacNab family lived there many years ago. We were there for more than an hour, but we did not realize the time. It was amazing and like a dream as we could imagine every detail in that place and how they lived. Even though that splendid mansion had been renovated from time to time, many gorgeous things were maintained. We were divided into two groups with a pleasant docent who dressed like a servant of the MacNab family in that time. We wandered from room to room. Each room has its own history and contains numerous precious masterpieces. We saw magnificent carpets, fabulous chandeliers, and other fancy furniture. We saw the scullery which was a big room for preparing food where many servants worked, each one with his or her own task. We also viewed the valuable library of Sir Allan MacNab. It was fantastic as we imagined all of those people from two hundred years ago living now.
