I signed up for the Bridge to Community Services Program out of curiosity and a desire to expand my network with the hope that this could eventually lead to important connections in my job search efforts. The program proved to be much more than that. My curiosity was rewarded by a strong learning experience, rich insights, and endless resources. My classmates were awesome, and we learned from each other, sharing our experiences, and exchanging tips over the course of the program. The course instructors were very supportive, skillful, and genuine in their commitment to our success both in the in-class part as well as the placement portion of the program. I really appreciate the effort that went into ensuring that I was placed with an organization that met my personal preference and gave me a very meaningful learning experience. With all the support, I thrived and successfully completed my placement.

The partnership did not end there; my instructors gladly offered to provide references for me to prospective employers and I know that whatever success the future holds for me, my instructors will be a part of it too! I recommend the program to everyone contemplating a career in community services; go ahead, it is a very worthwhile time investment!

I enrolled in the “Bridge to Work Program” being offered by Mohawk College in September 2020. It was an absolute blissful learning experience for me. It completely prepared me to step into the workforce in Canada. It gave me an insight of Canadian culture and the job market. The program gave me an edge towards other candidates applying for work, as Mohawk offered some very informative and latest certifications available in the market. This program was a beautiful mix of theoretical and practical learning. With some very exemplary teachers on board teaching this program, Mohawk gave us an opportunity to shine and prove ourselves. I am indebted, as this program gave me a chance to make some beautiful friends along with the learning experience it provided me.

As a newcomer, you face many challenges upon arrival, and your career is one of the main issues you may have to deal with. The Bridge to Community Services Program is a great and rewarding start for those who see themselves pursuing their careers in a caring field. With my settlement in Canada, I was not sure which professional path to take, and joining the Bridge Program at Mohawk helped me learn a lot about community services in Canada and the different populations they serve, as well as explore possible career opportunities. It also equipped me with the knowledge and skills in mental health, providing me with a variety of practical trainings such as Mental Health First Aid, Suicide Prevention, and CPI Nonviolent Crisis Intervention, just to name a few. I definitely have improved my confidence in job search and exploring possible careers and pathways. One of the most valuable assets was my field placement at the Learning Disabilities Association, which enhanced my experience working with children and families by helping them get the services and supports they need. I feel much more confident and equipped after completing the program, and currently, I have decided to continue my studying in the Child and Youth Care program at Mohawk.
