Primary duties
We are currently hiring part-time Personal Care Workers (PSWs) to join our team at St. Peter’s Residence. We are looking for caring and resident-focused candidates.

St. Peter’s Residence at Chedoke is a not for profit 221 bed long-term care residence that features high quality living in a home like environment. Key responsibilities:

  • Promote excellence in delivery of care with a strong customer focus.
  • Work collaboratively with other team members; deal tactfully and courteously with residents, residents’ families, visitors and all health team members.
  • Provide personal care of residents with a high standard of skill, sense of responsibility, dignity, caring and respect for privacy.
  • Understand the Resident Bill of rights, respect and promote it.
  • Assist in the care process by observing and reporting changes in the resident’s physical and emotional condition. Understand the guidelines of care as outlined in the resident care plans to provide care.
  • Perform personal care and selected nursing measures to promote comfort and safety for the resident in accordance with our standards of resident care.
  • Assist with record keeping indicating resident’s condition, care and specific treatment. Document on flow sheets, progress notes and care plans as per requirements.
  • Maintain a safe, neat, clean environment for residents and staff. Recognize and report any safety hazards and follow all safety policies and procedures.
     
Skills and Experience Required
  • Minimum Personal Support Worker (PSW) certification.
  • Prior experience of providing support services for seniors with disabilities is considered an asset.
  • Ability to empathize with people with physical and emotional needs is essential.
  • Must be able to plan and organize work and perform tasks according to priority.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, with a competent level of English are required.
  • Must be available to work within a 24 hour, seven day/week work schedule.
  • Ability to develop supportive relationships and work collaboratively with clients, family members, colleagues, volunteers, and community partners are essential.
  • Must be able to take direction and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • The successful candidate will be required to submit a Vulnerable Sector Police Check and a medical clearance.
  • As a condition of employment, you are required to provide proof that you are fully vaccinated or provide proof of valid exemption satisfactory to the employer prior to your start date.
