Business Analysis Placement Process Change FAQ

FAQ for Employers

How will unpaid field placements run for Spring 2024?

Employers will have the option to offer a remote, blended or in-person placement. The placement delivery is up to the employer, you will have the option to select this in the employer participation form.

Will I be inundated with student emails?

No – students should still be treating this as “only applicants selected for an interview will be contacted” situation.  Students should NOT contact an employer unless they have been contacted first.

What if I don’t start interviewing right away and all the students I contact have accepted other offers?

  • If you can’t interview right away, or within the first couple weeks after receiving the resumes, feel free to contact the placement assistant to confirm which students are still available for interviews.
  • The placement assistant will still send reminders to ensure employers received the resumes and are interviewing students.

What if I offer a placement to a student, then something changes and I need to cancel the placement closer to the start date?

It is unfortunate, but we are aware that these situations do sometimes arise. We request you contact us as soon as possible so that we can work with the student to find alternate arrangements for them.

What if a student accepts my offer, then cancels it to take another placement offer?

  • Students are not permitted to cancel a confirmed placement for another placement position.  They are, however, allowed to cancel their placement if they receive an offer for full-time employment in the Business Analysis field.
  • Once a student has accepted a placement offer, they are considered “off the market” and cannot attend additional placement interviews or accept another placement offer.

Advantages

  • Reduces wait time to confirm your placement student
    • You can start processing paperwork for your student as soon as they are confirmed.
    • No more waiting for other employers to submit their offers to confirm their placements.
  • More accurately simulates “real-world” experience of job interviews and acceptance; students will have to make a decision within 24 hours of receiving the offer directly from the employer.

FAQ for Students

How will unpaid field placements run for Spring 2024?

Placements can be remote, blended or in-person. The delivery is up to the employer, make you are checking the postings when applying to see how the employer intends the placement to take place.

What if a company I am interested in pursuing a placement with isn’t on your employer list?

Please follow the process for “Students Sourcing Their Own Placement”. Please note – you MUST contact the placement assistant for approval BEFORE contacting an employer. If an employer is on our previous employer partners list, the answer will likely be “no”.

What if I get an offer from a company I’m not really interested in?

If you are not really interested in that company, please do not select them as one of your 3 companies. If they give you an offer, you will have to answer them within 24 hours. If your answer is “no”, that is 100% up to you.

What if I get an interview offer after I’ve accepted a placement?

  • You have to turn down any additional interviews after you have confirmed an offer (or if you have an offer pending). Yes, it may be disappointing if you’ve accepted an offer with one company, then another you were really interested in calls – but that is part of life. Remember, this is only a 7-week unpaid placement, and not a life-long commitment.
  • Once you have accepted a placement offer, you are “off the market”. If employers contact the placement assistant in advance, they will let them know – but not all employers will so you may still get another interview request.

What if I haven’t heard from any employers, and it is a few weeks into interviews?

Be patient – it takes time for employers to sort through all the resumes and set up interviews. Some employers start interviewing later than others.
