Overview

The McMaster-Mohawk Bachelor of Technology Partnership (B.Tech.) offers a four and a half year post-secondary program that is uniquely designed to combine classroom study, labs, and workplace training. Graduates receive a degree from McMaster University as well as an advanced diploma and business management certificate from Mohawk College. Students take core technical and management courses in addition to 12 months of paid co-op work experience. Alongside their
co-op terms, students experience a curriculum that is industry driven, relevant, and balanced between practice and theory, readying them for the workplace or for further study at the graduate level in Masters or PhD programs.

What you'll learn

  • Automation Engineering Technology
    • Construction, operation, design, and manufacturing of modern vehicles.
    • Current and future automotive propulsion technologies, advanced combustion systems, hybrid powertrains, and alternative fuel vehicles.
  • Automotive & Vehicle Engineering Technology
    • Develop analytical and design skills and gain specialized knowledge in sensors, instruments, actuators, industrial networks, process control, SCADA, programming, robotics, and the integration of plant floor data with business systems.
  • Biotechnology
    • Genetic engineering, cell biology, molecular biology, microbiology, analytical instrumentation, and bio processing.
    • Latest research in immunology, virology, genomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics.

Admission

For September 2019 admission, we require 6 grade 12 U/M courses including:

  • English (ENG4U)
  • Calculus (MCV4U)
  • Chemistry (SCH4U)
  • Physics (SPH4U)

The admission range for September 2019 is expected to be 78 to 82%.

Opportunities for grads

  • The B.Tech. program is accredited by the Canadian Institute of Management (CIM), which recognizes B.Tech. as a leader in business and management education.
  • B.Tech. graduates are able to achieve a more direct path to a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) licence.

    • Over 60 B.Tech. graduates have obtained their P.Eng. status. Typically, B.Tech. graduates must:

      1. Write a number of examinations as specified by Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).

      2. Write an engineering and ethics examination.

      3. Fulfill a Capstone Report requirement.

      4. Complete four years of engineering work experience, typically under a professional engineer.
