Days of Significance

A note about designated days and months, e.g. International Day of Pink, National Indigenous History Month. While these days and months are good reminders to celebrate underrepresented and marginalized groups, learn about their histories and the oppressions, inequities, and issues that they face, as well as take action, we must be mindful to be continuously commemorating these groups, educating ourselves, and standing-up in solidarity.

(It is a day to come together with families, communities, and nations to grieve the loss of the children, to honour the lives of survivors and to heal from past and ongoing traumas.” Even though September 30th is now a federally recognized day, we don’t want to lose sight of the work that Phylis Webstad did to start that movement. The story of the Orange shirt is still very important.)
