What you'll learn
- Build a fulfilling career as a qualified journeyperson in the skilled trade of carpentry.
- Instill the theory behind the skills you are learning from your employer on the job with extensive training in estimation, calculation and layout methods.
- Layout and install building materials according to plans, specifications and building codes in residential, industrial, commercial and institutional (ICI)construction.
- Develop a wide range of skills including:
- Plan reading and layout
- Estimating and calculations; o Interior finish
- Exterior finish
- Framing (wood/steel)
- Concrete formwork
- Stair building
- Doors and windows
- Scaffolding
- Timber framing

Learning Outcomes
Program Learning Outcomes for apprenticeship programs, are defined within the Curriculum Training Standard for each trade, and set out the essential learning that a student must achieve before being deemed ready to graduate.

The Curriculum Standards are developed by Skilled Trades Ontario in consultation with representatives from the trade and Training Delivery Agent instructors.
Admission
Offers of classroom training are issued by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training & Skills Development and registered with Skilled Trades Ontario.

Tuition and Fees
To complete your registration and secure your seat, please follow the link provided in the in-class training offer email from the Ministry. Registration and payment must be completed online.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements
You will also be required to purchase safety equipment, tools/supplies and/or exam fees. PPE required for the first day of classes includes CSA approved safety glasses and safety boots or shoes. Full details will be provided in your classes or at your orientation. This is an additional cost (above tuition/ancillary fees and textbooks).

As you start on your chosen career path, it's important to have a realistic set of expectations regarding the expenses associated with attending college. Experiential Learning
How you’ll gain skills
- The apprenticeship is based on a total of 7,200 hours with 10% completed in school and 90% completed on the job with your employer.
- Of the 720 hours completed in school, approximately 50% is theoretical in the classroom and the other 50% is completed as a practical component in the shop.

If you've successfully taken a course at another post-secondary institution, you may be able to earn course exemptions toward your credential here at Mohawk.
If you have successfully completed one of the following programs at Mohawk, you may be eligible to receive transfer credit in this program. To start a new program at Mohawk, you must apply via ontariocolleges.ca.
