Thriving In Action

September 26 – November 21, 2023

Don't just survive...thrive! Learn thriving skills and holistic learning strategies in Thriving in Action (TiA).

Offered as one 8-week series or two 4-week series, choose your own path to improving your academic and personal skills. In this group session, students will meet weekly to learn key skills to increase motivation, optimism, and resilience. You will also be introduced to learning strategies that will improve time management and study skills. It’s not too late to turn things around, and it’s never too late to learn how to flourish!

Series 1 (September 26 - October 24, 2023)

Week 1: A Strong Start - Forming Habits & Top Learning Strategies

Week 2: Improving Sleep & Time-Management

Week 3: Finding Your Flow & Effective Studying

Week 4: Tune Into Your Strengths & Tips for Collaborative Group Work

Series 2 (October 31 - November 21, 2023)

Week 5: Developing Grit & Growth Mindset

Week 6: Balancing Self-Compassion & Self-Advocacy

Week 7: Cultivating Optimism & Assignment Writing

Week 8: Gratitude & Confident Test-Taking

Is TiA Right for Me?

  • Procrastination and perfectionism get in your way.
  • You study for hours without getting the grades to show for it.
  • You feel burnt out and unsure of how to nourish yourself and rest.
  • It is hard to feel a sense of community, calm, or hope in your academic journey.

What you need to know:

  • This is a holistic 10-week program that runs Tuesdays at 1:00-2:00pm & 6:00-7:00pm from September 26 to November 21, 2023 in-person. 
  • Personal commitment to the program is the strongest predictor of successful outcomes! We recommend attending all weeks to get the most out of this meaningful initiative but attendance on a week-by-week basis is welcomed.
  • Thriving in Action welcomes all students with a variety of life experiences. This includes (but isn’t limited to):
    • Students accessing Counselling Services
    • Students registered with Accessible Learning Services
    • Students on academic probation
    • Indigenous, 2SLGBTQ+, racialized, and minority students
    • Mature students
    • International students
    • Working students
    • Students raising or caring for families

In other words, if you feel like you’re ready to learn and implement new strategies to thrive personally and academically, we encourage you to sign up by completing the online. Please note, participation in this program will be eligible for the Wellness Advocate CCR.
