English Language Requirements

Mohawk College is home to a diverse body of learners including those whose first language is not English. In order to support these applicants, we accept a variety of language assessments for the purpose of satisfying the language proficiency requirement to enter Mohawk College programs. Applicants whose first language is not English or who have studied in a country where English is not a first language must submit one of the following to meet eligibility requirements at Mohawk College.

Please note that some programs have language requirements that differ from the acceptable tests listed below. Please be sure to review the exceptions listed below along with the Admission tab of the program pages for the programs you are interested in joining. Completion of a high school diploma in Ontario with a minimum of ENG4C will satisfy the English language requirements of most but not all programs at Mohawk College.

Exceptional Programs

There are several programs with language requirements that differ from the standards outlined above. Please carefully review the language requirements detailed below and refer to the program pages for more detailed information on these requirements

 

Pharmacy Technician (407/607):

  • TOEFL iBT (Writing/Speaking - minimum score 25, Listening - minimum score 21, Reading - minimum score 22, Total minimum score 91
  • IELTS – Writing, Speaking, Listening and Reading – minimum score in each band – 6, Total minimum score – 6.5
  • Can Test – Writing - minimum score 4, Speaking, Listening and Reading - minimum score 4.5
  • To be excused from this requirement, applicants must provide proof of:
  • Graduation from a high school in Canada, with at least three years (no less) consecutive full time instruction in English

Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography (717):

  • TOEFL iBT score, completed within 2 years of application, of 98 (with a minimum score of 24 in each of reading, listening and writing and 26 in speaking) 

    OR

  • IELTS Academic score of 7.0 (with no band less than 6.5)

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (769):

  •  TOEFL iBT score, completed within 2 years of application, of 98 (with a minimum score of 24 in each of reading, listening and writing and 26 in speaking) 

    OR

  • IELTS Academic score of 7.0 (with no band less than 6.5)

Digital Health Bachelors Degree (Honours)(595):

  • IELTS Academic:  6.5 (no band below 6.0)
  • TOEFL:  83 iBT
  • CAEL: 169 (no band below 162)
  • CLBT:  7 (no band below 7)
  • PTE:  58 (no band below 51)

Bachelor of Analytics and Data Management (392):

  • IELTS – International English Language Testing Service or - overall band of 6.5 with a     minimum of 6.0 in each band;

  • TOEFL – Internet-based (iBT) – overall 90, with the minimum in each component: Reading: 22; Listening: 22; Speaking:22; Writing: 24

Massage Therapy (469):

  • TOEFL minimum score of 560 (88 Internet based)

  • IELTS Writing 6.0, Speaking 6.5, Listening 7.5 and Reading 6.5 in IELTS Academic

Early Childhood Education (213):

  • TOEFL minimum score of 560 (83 Internet based)

Practical Nursing (715):
