Power Start: Electrical & Renewable Resource Trades Introductory Training Program

 

Mohawk College is pleased to partner with the Sectoral Workforce Solutions Program & ELECTRICITY HUMAN RESOURCES CANADA to offer a fully funded 10-week introductory program to Careers in the Electrical Sector.

 

Program Dates: January 22, 2024 - March 29, 2024

Program Highlights:

  • Shop Safety & Tool familiarization
  • Workplace Safety - WHMIS, Lock Out/Tag Out, First Aid & CPR
  • Electrical Trade Practices
  • Electrical Installation Methods
  • Electrified Energy Systems including Hybrid/Electric Vehicles, Residential/Commercial Car Chargers, Green buildings, Renewable Energies, Power Engineering
  • Careers in the Electrical Sector
  • Support in securing a work placement*

How it works

  • Individuals apply for and meet eligibility criteria to participate in training
  • Tuition subsidy program is available for students who meet the program eligibility criteria. The cost of tuition and textbooks is covered. 
  • Limited seating capacity- 20 students

Admission Requirements

To be considered for this training program at Mohawk College, you must:

  • Be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Minimum of 16 years of age and eligible to work in Ontario
  • Have your OSSD/GED or equivalent 
  • Be willing and able to commit to a full-time program (approx. 30 hours per week)
  • Preference will be given to applicants who permanently reside in the City of Hamilton and immediate surrounding areas.

*Please note that this is a highly competitive program and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. All applicants will be notified of the results of their application by the end of December 2023.

  1. Attend a virtual information session. Register for an online session below! 

    Wednesday, November 15, 2023 12pm. 

    Thursday, November 23, 2023 3:30pm. 

    Monday, November 27, 1:00pm

  2. Complete an application. Applications will  open Wednesday November 8th and close December 1st at 7pm. APPLY HERE! 
  3. Eligible candidates may be asked to write an assessment Proficiency Test. English – Language/Reading Comprehension and Math/Mechanical Reasoning
