Program Highlights

  • This one-year certificate program can be a first step toward further employment in the justice field.
  • Applicants considering postsecondary education relating to justice careers may use this as a pathway to further education, either at the college or university level.

A number of seats will be reserved in Mohawk College Justice and Wellness Studies programs (Police Foundations, Community and Justice Services and Protection, Security and Investigation) for graduates of Pre-Justice.

What you'll learn

  • Examine many facets of Canada’s justice and security systems and explore the many employment opportunities available within.
  • Explore Canada’s judicial system and the individuals it serves, from the law enforcement perspective, the point of view of the victim, the accused and the media.
  • Consider the rights of the wrongfully accused, the impact of acts of terrorism, the correctional system, as well as deviant behaviours and their effects on society.
  • Investigate educational and career opportunities in public policing, private and corporate security, insurance fraud investigations, victim and offender services and prevention programs for those at risk of criminal involvement.
  • • Improve critical thinking, written and oral communication skills and basic math.

  • The program is not designed to prepare students for entry to practice skills and abilities, but to build enhanced college/university skills fundamental to success
  • Initiate lifestyle improvements including health and wellness activities designed to work toward the physical fitness requirements for careers in the Justice field as well as strategies to maintain, emotional and psychological wellness while employed in public and security sectors

In many cases these program learning outcomes were developed by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) in consultation with employers and educators who are experts in the program field.
