Magnetic Resonance Imaging (1st Discipline) - 767

Ontario College Diploma
Mohawk College’s MRI program offers flexible, online learning to gain the advanced technical skills and knowledge to qualify to write the CAMRT certification exam.

Program Highlights

  • Mohawk’s Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Ontario College Diploma program is offered full-time online with intensive skills-based training at Institute for Applied Health Sciences (a Mohawk College campus located on the McMaster property). Intakes are in September.

What you'll learn

  • Mohawk’s MRI program features integrated MRI simulations that immerse students in the software platforms prior to live applications in clinical placement.
  • Course content is strategically designed to support the online learner, and follows universal design for learning (UDL) principles to provide options to support all students. For example, 360 anatomy web-based interactive course content and Nearpods to enhance skill development.

Functional demands

The functional demands required for a professional practice in Magnetic Resonance Imaging should be fully appreciated and working as a technologist in this demanding environment requires consideration for the following skills:

  • Manual dexterity
  • Physical strength for both patient and equipment movement
  • Fine motor control
  • Both critical thinking and strong written/verbal communication skills

Program length and delivery

  • The MRI program content is delivered in an online blended format with both synchronous and asynchronous deliveries.
  • The Imaging and Applications course has 2-hour labs  with several evening options. In person lab opportunities are available during the program delivery.

Clinical Placement

Students will be required to complete 2 clinical placements. One 7 week in semester 4, and semester 5 is entirely a clinical placement. Students may be required to relocate for their clinical placement. Clinical placements are unpaid and relocation costs are absorbed by the student.

Learning Outcomes

Program Learning Outcomes, often referred to as ‘Program Standards', set out the essential learning that a student must achieve before being deemed ready to graduate.

In many cases these program learning outcomes were developed by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU) in consultation with employers and educators who are experts in the program field. To ensure the outcomes remain current and in line with industry needs, we invite our employers, graduates working in the field and current students to re-examine and update them during regular, ongoing program review focus groups.
