REVISED Academic Accommodation for Students with Accessibility Needs Policy

The Academic Accommodation for Students with Accessibility Needs Policy has been updated to allow students to work directly with Accessible Learning Services and Student Rights and Responsibilities offices for accommodations removing reference to the Accommodations Review Committee to ensure decisions are guided by legislation and the duty to accommodate. 

The purpose of this policy is to inform and guide the Mohawk College community in providing academic accommodations for students with accessibility needs.

REVISED Student Assessment Policy

The Student Assessment Policy has been updated to reference retroactive accommodations, clarifying faculty discretion on student provided medical/personal documentation and limiting the use of the Student Wellness portal for accommodation requests.

The purpose of this policy and procedure is to present a framework for assessing student performance and outlining missed assessment/evaluations.

REVISED Campus/College Emergency Procedure - ERP803

The Campus/College Emergency Procedure has been updated to align decision making with the current corporate structure. It further clarifies that the IAHS Campus will close if either Mohawk College or McMaster Univeristy closes. 

The purpose of this procedure is to provide general direction to the Mohawk College community on when and how the College will “close” in the event of an Emergency Situation or Inclement Weather event.

REVISED Change of Name for Students Policy

The Change of Name for Students Policy has been updated to align with current practices and permit online submission of name change requests.

The purpose of this policy is to outline the process for students and former students requesting to change their legal, preferred, chosen or lived name on their college records and to ensure appropriate processes are in place to maintain the integrity of college records.

REVISED Academic Appeals Policy

The Academic Appeals Policy has been updated to address a gap in procedure for courses where a final grade is issued before the end of the term. It further addresses conflict of interest declarations for academic managers where they are directly involved in the academic decision being appealed.

The purpose of this policy is to provide guidelines for promoting fairness and consistency in academic decisions affecting Mohawk College students. This policy outlines the standardized procedures for the student appellant to challenge an academic decision, and to ensure reasonable and impartial treatment of student concerns related to academic decisions.

NEW Student Mental Health Policy

The mental health and well-being of Mohawk College students are prioritized to support their academic success and lifelong achievement. This is fostered by creating a safe, inclusive, equity based and compassionate culture that is supported by a comprehensive range of college mental health and well-being services and community partnerships. 

The purpose of this policy is to increase awareness of, and ease of access to, the range of mental health and well-being supports, services, programs and resources and accessible spaces provided at Mohawk College and within the community.

REVISED Recruitment and Selection Policy

This policy has been updated to incorporate updates due to Bill 166 including adding definitions, added collaboration and impact references in alignment with reporting requirements.

The purpose of this Recruitment and Selection Policy is to ensure a timely, equitable and effective employee recruitment and selection process that complies with relevant employment legislation and applicable collective agreements. This also includes supporting the principles outlined in the Strengthening Accountability and Student Supports Act, 2024.

REVISED Health & Safety Policy

This policy has been updated to reflect Bill 166 requirements, including anti-hate and anti-discrimination measures, anonymous reporting, and training and education.

REVISED Program Promotion and Graduation Requirements Policy

This policy was updated to include a minor adjustment reducing the posthumous degree to 60% completion from 75% completion.

REVISED Student Behaviour Policy

This policy has been updated to include key updates such as integrating equity-based and restorative approaches, expanding informal resolutions, and increasing intelligibility and accessibility. 

The purpose of this policy is to outline the principles of expected student behaviour in keeping with the College’s mission and shared values. It is intended to guide student behaviour, to respect and protect the rights and responsibilities of all students and employees at Mohawk College and to support employees in managing inappropriate student behaviour.

REVISED Academic Scheduling Policy

This policy has been updated including definitions and alignment with collective agreements. Additionally a new Appendix B was created outlining the procedure for creation of important academic dates.

The purpose of this policy is to establish a framework to support the creation of timetables and applies to Postsecondary, Apprenticeship and Continuing Education timetables and examination schedules for all campuses.

REVISED Grading and Transcripts Policy

This policy has been updated to provide additional language around transcripts.

This policy establishes a clear, consistent and equitable approach for recognizing and reporting student academic achievement.

This policy outlines the college's commitment to supporting students in accessing  student housing options that support a diverse student population. The college aims to enhance student well-being and academic success by delivering comprehensive housing support services in alignment with provincial regulations.

REVISED Admission Standards Policy

This policy has been updated with definition of 'conditional eligibility.'

The purpose of this policy is to provide an equitable and consistent framework by which all applicants shall be considered for admission to all Mohawk College post-secondary programs of instruction as outlined in the Ministry of College and Universities (MCU) Binding Policy Directive on Admission.

REVISED Purchasing Card Policy

This policy has been updated with minor changes only to reflect current terminology and electronic format.

The purpose of Mohawk College’s Purchasing Card Policy (“policy”) is to:

  • establish a framework for request, approval and use of the Purchasing Card for college business expenditures.
  • establish a more efficient, cost-effective method of purchase and payment for low dollar, high volume eligible goods and services with an approach that maintains acceptable levels of control and accountability.

REVISED Integrity in Research and Scholarship Policy

This policy has been updated to reflect changes resulting from changes to the Tri Agency Framework.

The purpose of this policy is to outline the principles consistent with integrity in research and scholarship and outlines procedures for investigating violations of these principles (or allegations of misconduct) in research and scholarship carried out by members of the Mohawk College community.

This policy has been updated to embed the Web Posting and Email Notification Policy within this policy.
