Program Highlights
- This program fills a unique and growing industry need for interdisciplinary sustainability practitioners with knowledge and skills spanning technology, environment, economic and social impacts.
- This interdisciplinary program combines management expertise in sustainability accounting, carbon management and sustainability business cases, with project management, environmental policy, regulations, and research skills.
- As an applied degree, the program emphasizes experiential learning through case-study analysis, real-world application of learning, an industry-based capstone project, and a work-integrated learning term.
- This program is engaged and committed to including Indigenous content and knowledge in courses.
- Hybrid delivery with approximately one third of instructional hours delivered online (synchronous and/or asynchronous).
- Graduates of the 3-year program will be career-ready and able to apply practical skills in their chosen profession.
What you'll learn
- You'll gain practical skills and knowledge across key areas such as environmental science and sustainability, technological solutions, management, business strategies, social impact, communication, leadership, research, governance and policy, as well as data analytics and reporting.
- The management aspects of the program focus on change leadership, project management, sustainable accounting, business case considerations, and building business cases for sustainability.
- Throughout this program, you’ll engage with Indigenous knowledge and perspectives, as well as the principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion. You’ll develop the insights and skills needed to tackle sustainability challenges with an inclusive and intersectional perspective, ensuring your solutions consider diverse experiences and impacts.
- In the first two years of the program, you’ll engage in hands-on learning opportunities that will prepare you for a work term placement. In your third year, you’ll have the chance to apply your skills in a real-world industry or community-based capstone project.

- OSSD or equivalent with a minimum of six (6) Grade 12 University (U) or university/college (M) courses including:
- Grade 12 English, U level
- Grade 12 Mathematics, U level
- The average of the six required courses must be 65% or higher
- Post-secondary courses in math, English or communications, physics, chemistry, and biology can be applied toward the above requirements

The successful completion of an Ontario College Diploma, Ontario College Advanced Diploma, Degree, or equivalent
Recommend but not required:
- Grade 11 Environmental Science (SVN3M)
- Grade 11 or 12 Biology, U Level (SBI3U, SBI4U)
- Grade 11 or 12 Chemistry, U Level (SCH3U, SCH4U)
- Grade 12 Science, University/College Preparation (SNC4M)

How you'll gain skills
- Core technical knowledge will be taught through a variety of means, including instructor led labs that will demonstrate theory in carbon accounting and assessment.
- Engage in immersive case study simulation where you will practice the application of sustainable business practices, including project management, change management, marketing and reporting frameworks.
- Completion of a capstone project will allow you to demonstrate your cumulative skills in the program, where you may be matched with partner organizations, such as the Office of Sustainability.
- Complete a 420-hour Mandatory Degree Work Experience in the field of sustainability.

Mandatory Degree Work Experience
A work experience that includes at least one term in a formal work environment. In most cases the work experience is a paid position that is completed in-between two academic semesters and requires a minimum of 420 hours of work. Students must be in good standing and meet all identified requirements prior to participating in the work experience. The successful completion of the work experience is required for graduation.

Program Learning Outcomes, often referred to as ‘Program Standards', set out the essential learning that a student must achieve before being deemed ready to graduate.
In many cases these program learning outcomes were developed by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU) in consultation with employers and educators who are experts in the program field.
