Program Highlights

  • This program is a combination of in-class facilitated discussions, and practical hands-on experiences offered through Mohawk College’s Centre for Entrepreneurship including mentorship, speaker series, and the opportunity to participate in a live Pitch competition.

What you'll learn

  • Learn to effectively manage a small business throughout the 5 stages of small business growth.
  • Learn the fundamentals of operating a lean, agile business that can respond to external factors forcing change.
  • Graduate with a comprehensive business plan that gives you a head start in obtaining funding and launching your own business.

How you'll learn

Online learning

  • No set schedule: Classes are formatted in an asynchronous format, so you can continue other life commitments and study at a time that’s convenient to you.
  • Bite-sized content: Course material is broken down into small digestible modules giving you the opportunity to learn on the go.
  • Newest technology: Your course will be delivered in a modern format that uses the newest learning technologies such as community boards, gamification, videos and other interactive elements.

In-person learning

  • Face-to-face interaction: Interact with instructors and peers in real-time. Participate in discussions and receive immediate feedback.
  • Experience campus life: Take advantage of your time on campus and use facilities like the library, the gym, food services and different events that happen on campus.
  • Structure and discipline: In-class learning can contribute to a more structured and disciplined environment. It can also provide a routine and social interaction.

SURGE provides expert training on how to pitch your idea, matched with a business mentor or coach and find yourself in a co-working space with other like-minded entrepreneurs.

Learning Outcomes

Program Learning Outcomes, often referred to as ‘Program Standards', set out the essential learning that a student must achieve before being deemed ready to graduate.

In many cases these program learning outcomes were developed by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities (MCU) in consultation with employers and educators who are experts in the program field. To ensure the outcomes remain current and in line with industry needs, we invite our employers, graduates working in the field and current students to re-examine and update them during regular, ongoing program review focus groups.
