If you are studying on a part-time basis through Continuing Education, Mohawk has a number of financial assistance options available to you.  Our goal is:

  • To assist students demonstrating financial need that is studying through Mohawk College Continuing Education (C.E.) on a part-time basis.
  • To encourage students in financial need to pursue academic upgrading or training programs that will enable them to advance their employment-related skills on a full-time or part-time basis. 
  • To encourage students in financial need to pursue postsecondary studies for the first time on a part-time or full-time basis. 

    One application will automatically put you in a review for all available scholarships and bursaries:

Institution-Funded Special Bursary (IFSB)

IFSB is a bursary designed to assist financially needy students studying part-time, and completing their first eligible post-secondary certificate or diploma. 

What’s covered: IFSB will fund a maximum of TWO courses per semester, at 75% of the tuition cost, and may cover up to 100% of book expenses per course.

Bursary for Continuing Education Students (BCES)

BCES supports students that have previously completed a minimum of two courses towards their chosen Certificate/Diploma. 

What’s covered: BCES will fund a maximum of ONE course per semester, at 75% of the tuition cost, and may cover up to 100% of book expenses per course. 

Eligible Programs: Continuing Education programs that are more than 4 weeks in length may be considered for funding.

Requirement: Letter - 200 word essay declaring community involvement and going above and beyond to assist other students.

Dianne Smithson Memorial Bursary

Program: Bridging for Internationally Educated Nurses (BIEN) 189, Oncology Nursing 883, Mental Health Certificate 930

Support Staff Memorial Bursary (changed to Brad Nancy Fleming OTSS Fund)

Canadian Association Research Admin Bursary

How to be considered for Continuing Education Bursaries

To be considered for all of the Continuing Education Bursaries, you need to complete and submit a Continuing Education Bursaries Application. See below for eligibility and application details.


To be eligible for Continuing Education Bursaries you must meet the following criteria:

1.  A Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident or Protected Person

2.  Not receiving grant or loan funding from:

  • The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP)
  • The Canada Student Loans Program (CSLP)
  • Second Careers
  • A student financial assistance program from another province, territory or country.

3.  Taking approved courses and are enrolled:

  • Continuing Education program at Mohawk College that leads to a degree, diploma or a certificate
  • To upgrade academic skills
  • In a course at least four weeks in length

When should I apply and what are my deadlines?
It is your responsibility to ensure that your application, registration form and supporting documents are submitted 10 days prior to the course(s) start date.

If you are applying with less than 10 days to the course(s) start date, you will need to pay up-front to be registered while the application is being reviewed.  If approved for funding, a refund will be issued after the 3rd week of classes.

Maintaining Eligibility:
Students must successfully complete all courses funded through this program.

If you fail to do so, you must successfully complete one term funded through your own resources, in order to be eligible for this bursary again.

How do I receive my funding?
For students that pay in full: If you have paid for your course in full to ensure your registration, refunds will be reviewed after the third class. Refunds will come by cheque in the mail to your home address.

For all other students, if approved, you are required to make the 25% payment prior to being registered in your course(s).

Apply NOW for Continuing Education Bursaries

All Students are required to:

  1.  Gather all additional documentation (only if applicable):  

i) Married Students:
- Photocopy of the marriage certificate. (official English translation is required)
- If applicable, photocopy of child(ren) birth certificate. (English or official English translation is required)

ii) Sole Support Students :
- Photocopy of child(ren) birth certificate. (English or official English translation is required)
- Photocopy of your separation/divorce agreement, showing that your child(ren) are living with you on a full-time basis. If you have never been married, you must provide an affidavit confirming that your child(ren) will be residing with you full-time during your study period and the birthdates of those children.

iii) Separated or Divorced Students:
- Photocopy of your separation or divorce agreement.

iv) Protected Person or Permanent Resident:
- Proof of Citizenship Status (if you are a Protected Person or Permanent Resident)

  1. Type a detailed letter indicating why you require financial assistance.  Make sure to include any community or volunteer involvement you may have and indicate your educational goals as you may be considered for additional awards.  This information is needed to be considered for the bursaries with specific criteria.
  1. Apply Online: Continuing Education Bursaries Application (opens new window) (this is also where you will submit a digital copy of your detailed letter from step 2).
  2. Print, complete and submit the Continuing Education Registration Form to Continuing Education Registration.(submission guidelines are on the CE Registration Form)
  3. Students must complete and submit the Continuing Education Registration separately from the Continuing Education Bursaries online application. If you have already registered for your courses for the semester, please upload a copy of your Acknowledgement of Registration & Student Account with your application.
  4. Print, complete and submit the Document Submission Checklist for Continuing Education Students PDF 
  5. Submit Proof of income: Photocopy of your last 3 pay stubs or a letter from your employer (current year), or if you do not have income, a letter explaining how you meet all your expenses and supporting documents (in case you are not reporting any income). If you have children, please do not include funding from the Ontario Child Benefit Equivalent Program.


All documents from Steps 1, 4, 6 and 7 are due immediately after completing the online Continuing Education Bursaries Application and no later than 5 days from the date of your submission.

NO application can be processed WITHOUT SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION. Delay in submitting will result in a delay in review of your submission.
*All Documentation must be uploaded for review by the deadline of 5 days after the online application submission. Hard copy submission of documents may not be accepted. 


What happens AFTER you apply?

  1. You will be notified via Mohawk College email regarding the status of your application within 2 weeks of application submission.
  2. You can only apply once per semester.
  3. If you are ineligible or your application is denied, you will be responsible for payments of your tuition fees.
  4. Before we can award your bursary, please make sure you show proof of your social insurance number (social insurance card or notice of assessment) along with a valid government photo ID to the Financial Assistance Office.
